Matthew Knouff to Speak at Federal Court Program on Impact of Social Media on Legal Ethics & Professionalism

Matthew F. Knouff, General Counsel and eDiscovery Counsel for Complete Discovery Source, a leading e-discovery company, will participate on a panel titled "Uses & Abuses of Social Media: A Lawyer's Ethical & Professionalism Obligations." The panel, part of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey's Professionalism Day, will contribute to the court's  efforts to promote professionalism in the legal profession.

Panelists will offer simulated real-life scenarios that raise key legal ethics and professionalism issues and dilemmas posed by social media.  The audience will observe these real-life scenarios and join the panelists in a spirited debate about the legal and practical implications that social media poses on the practice of law.  Panelists will also explore social media and its impact on the discovery, evidence, and trial stages of a lawsuit, jury considerations, and law firm management.

The panel will be moderated by The Hon. Esther Salas , U.S.D.J., and in addition to Knouff, the panel will feature The Hon. Dickinson R. Debevoise, U.S.D.J., The Hon. Jose L. Linares, U.S.D.J., The Hon. Patty Shwartz, U.S.M.J., Fernando M. Knouff advises law firms and corporations worldwide on eDiscovery and information governance policies and processes, cost and risk reduction strategies, and defensible deployment of technology during legal proceedings.  He has led numerous successful eDiscovery efforts in 26 countries across five continents.  He is an active member of The Sedona Conference Working Groups 1 and 6 and the EDRM's IGRM Section, Chairman of the New York County Lawyers' Association's eDiscovery Sub-Committee, and an avid participant with the New York State Bar Association and several other professional organizations.

Matt Knouff has developed numerous CLE programs and is a frequent lecturer, blogger, writer, and national speaker on issues related to eDiscovery, cross-border litigation, and information governance.  In 2012, he was published in both the North Carolina School of Law Journal of Law and Technology and the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology on issues related to cross-border eDiscovery.  He will be a panelist at the upcoming 9th Annual Georgetown Law Advanced eDiscovery Institute on preserving and admitting electronically stored information located in host countries outside the United States.

Knouff received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a dual B.A. from the University of North Carolina School of Law.  He is admitted to practice in New York.
