BOUCHERVILLE, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 20, 2012) - RONA inc. (TSX:RON)(TSX:RON.PR.A), the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products, will have the honour to help refurbish the football field after the re-creation of the Mud Bowl event that happened at SATEC @ W.A. Porter C.I. on November 19.
The 100th Grey Cup Festival partnered with RONA and the Toronto District School Board to recreate history and upgrade a football field at SATEC @ W.A. Porter C.I. (Porter) in the process. The field at Porter was used to simulate the infamous Mud Bowl game of 1950. In the spring of 2013, the same field will be re-sodded and refurbished by the Toronto Argonauts Football Club and RONA, creating a legacy for the surrounding community.
This project is a $30,000 investment from RONA's Home Field Advantage program, designed to create a lasting legacy in communities across the country. This is the last of eight refurbishment projects to be announced as part of the 100th Grey Cup Tour that ended on November 17 in Toronto.
Throughout the Tour, RONA has been revealing the names of the football fields to be restored in communities where Canadian Football League (CFL) teams are based. This involves a total investment of $240,000 through the RONA Home Field Advantage program.
100th Grey Cup Tour
The 100th Grey Cup Tour was a cross-Canada train tour that celebrated the centennial anniversary of the Grey Cup. From September to November, the Tour had more than 100 stops, hosting special events to honour the traditions of the CFL and the Grey Cup. RONA also hosted 15 in-store tailgate parties where fans, visitors, customers and RONA staff members were able to see and touch the Cup. As a partner of the CFL since 2000, RONA was proud to sponsor this uniquely Canadian journey.
"For RONA, it was a privilege to be the official presenter of this remarkable celebration, says Karim Salabi, Executive Vice-President, Marketing. We share a special relationship with the CFL, as we've been proud supporters of the league since 2000. It was a natural partnership for us because we share the same basic values of excellence and community. These values are why we sponsor all eight teams of the league today."
