Technopolis Strengthens Position in Oulu

Technopolis will purchase a modern, flexible campus in the immediate vicinity of Oulu’s growing Kontinkangas hospital, university, and business district. The rentable space of the campus is approximately 37,600 sqm. The transaction also includes a parking garage with 800 parking spaces. The total investment is EUR 31.7 million, of which the purchase price is EUR 30.5 million. The seller is Nokia, which will lease part of the property (17,400 sqm) under a long-term lease.

The Peltola campus will complement the existing 27,000 sqm neighboring Technopolis Kontinkangas campus, increasing its efficiency. The floor area of the two properties combined amounts to some 64,600 sqm.

“As we have said, we are focusing on our core business and evaluating the sale of non-core assets like real estate,” says Juha Olkinuora, Vice President, Nokia. “Nokia and Technopolis have collaborated in Oulu for more than 20 years, so they are a natural partner for us. We will continue our operations at the campus as before.”

The tenants in the Peltola campus focus on ICT competence and mobile solutions, but solid expertise in the biosciences, health and well-being sectors is also present in the area. In the vicinity Peltola houses the city and Oulu University Hospitals and the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, among others. These organizations and the companies operating in the Kontinkangas district are developing future healthcare services.

”We believe in Oulu’s growth potential and we believe in the Peltola campus,” says Keith Silverang, CEO of Technopolis. “Oulu’s economic foundation has diversified strongly and start-ups are already among the largest private employers. The Peltola campus is especially suitable for serving the growth companies in the area.”

The campus has a good location along National Highway 4 right next to the Kontinkangas district and has excellent connections by public transport. The City of Oulu is committed to investing in the growth of the area, aiming to create 700 new jobs in the Kontinkangas district by 2016.
