Record-setting track of Olympic Games to serve as competition surface for IAAF World Championships


MOSCOW, Aug. 8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mondotrack, the official track surface of the 2012 London and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, will once again help the world's elite track and field athletes to perform their best. This time, Mondotrack is the competition surface for the IAAF World Championships, Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.

Luzhniki Stadium, which played host to the 2008 UEFA Champions League Final and has been selected as the stage for the FIFA World Cup Final in 2018, installed an 8-lane, 48-inch Mondotrack surface in 2012. The track, which is medium blue with light blue infield aprons, was awarded an IAAF Class 1 certificate confirming that it is suitable for top competitions. Mondotrack is manufactured by a Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets.

An 80-meter sprint straight under one of the main stands at Luzhniki Stadium and two 400-meter warm-up and training tracks, identical to the competition track, also have the Mondotrack surface. A total of 90 tons of rubber were used for all of the track surfaces in the venue. In addition, Mondo provided other track and field equipment, including the long jump and triple jump takeoff boxes, the pole vault box, the steeplechase hurdles, and all bars and landing beds.
