NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The newly renovated Affinia Manhattan, a pet-friendly hotel in New York City, is once again an official hotel of the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the nation's premier canine event. In its 16th year of catering to the nation's top dogs and their trainers, Affinia Manhattan is pulling out all the stops with a variety of canine services and amenities, and welcoming this year's competitors with all the amenities of its recently launched VIPaws pet program.
VIPaws Suite
Each year, the hotel transforms one of its spacious, indoor/outdoor terrace suites into the complimentary VIPaws Suite, where dogs are able to maintain a fitness regimen. The guest-only VIPaws Suite includes an outdoor play area, treadmills provided by DogTread®, a well-known manufacturer of motorized pet treadmills and supplies; upscale pet retailer Jax & Bones chew toys; and an assortment of YaffBars, the world's first energy bar that both dogs and owners can enjoy. The VIPaws Suite will be open Wednesday, February 5 from noon – 12:00a.m.; Thursday, February 6 to Tuesday, February 11 from 5:00a.m. – midnight; and Wednesday, February 12 from 5:00a.m. – noon.
Wags & Wines Reception
On Sunday, February 9, from 5:00p.m. – 6:00p.m., Affinia Manhattan's nightly guest wine hour will accommodate its four-legged guests with a Wags & Wines reception featuring play stations designed by Architecture for Dogs, YaffBars, a fashion display of protective outerwear for dogs courtesy of YaffBars sister company, Spot the Dog, and a selection of wine from NakedWines.com for the hotel's two-legged guests. Guests will also be able to donate to Affinia Hotels' charitable partner, the Humane Society of New York, an animal rights organization and no-kill advocate helping animals in need across New York.
This year's show will feature 2,845 dogs, as well as welcome mixed-breed competitors for the first time. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will be held at Madison Square Garden (across from the hotel) and Piers 92/94 on Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
For guests whose canines aren't watching their diets before the show, Affinia Manhattan's VIPaws Pet program offers a delectable Doggie Delights menu created by Executive Chef Chris Scarpaci of the hotel's Niles Restaurant & Bar. Items for our furry friends include flavor-filled Beef Tips ($10), Sliced Steak ($12) and Grilled Steak ($8).
Guests who book the VIPaws Pet program, which is available year-round, will receive the following:
