BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Apr 3, 2014) - Dr. Leonard Miller, a Boston plastic surgeon, is consistently at the forefront of development for new facial rejuvenation and plastic surgery techniques. He recently assisted in the development of ThermiRF, a radiofrequency-based technology approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in aesthetic enhancement procedures. Dr. Miller says ThermiRF is the main component of ThermiTight, a treatment he offers at his practice that is designed to reduce the appearance of loose, inelastic skin. ThermiTight was developed by ThermiAesthetics, a company for which Dr. Miller is a clinical founder.
In a recent blog post, titled "Benefits of ThermiTight/ThermiRF Non-Surgical Skin Tightening," Dr. Miller says ThermiTight can be very beneficial for patients who want to achieve tighter, firmer skin in specific areas of the body without invasive surgery. He says it can be exceptionally useful for areas of loose skin under the chin, and he notes the technique can also be used in combination with liposuction to prevent skin inelasticity after fat removal. Dr. Leonard says ThermiTight can be very effective as a stand-alone procedure, or as a complement to surgical procedures such as tummy tuck surgery or facelift for even greater skin rejuvenation results.
ThermiTight/ThermiRF treatment involves the use of a thermocontrolled blunt electrode needle that is gently passed backwards and forwards under the skin. There are no incisions and no stitches necessary. The needle acts as the delivery mechanism for radiofrequency energy, heating fibrous strands and the dermis itself in order to stimulate collagen and provide a tighter appearance to the skin. Dr. Miller says the advanced technique typically results in minimal side effects (some temporary redness and swelling in the treatment area), and little to no recovery time. He says ThermiTight can yield optimal results after just two or three treatments, and that many patients have been very pleased with the outcome.
In addition to ThermiTight, Dr. Miller notes the ThermiRF device has been used as the main component in treatments such as:
- ThermiRase to treat wrinkles in the forehead
- ThermiLift to rejuvenate, tighten, and lift skin in the neck and lower face
- ThermiDry to treat excessive sweating
- ThermiSmooth to smooth out wrinkles
- Thermi-VA to minimize vaginal skin laxity
Dr. Miller believes ThermiRF technology makes it possible for safer treatment when compared with some of the other non-surgical skin tightening procedures. He says other radiofrequency-based treatments may heat the skin from the outside and are ultimately unable to determine the exact temperature of the inner layers of skin, increasing the risk of burn and injury. Dr. Miller notes that ThermiRF is designed to directly heat the tissues deep beneath the surface and record the actual temperatures to ensure optimal treatment temperature without overheating and burning.
Dr. Miller says he is pleased this treatment is now being adopted by plastic surgeons all across the country. He recommends interested candidates seek a board-certified plastic surgeon in their area to perform ThermiTight and other ThermiRF procedures for skin rejuvenation.
