Nexcess White Paper Reveals Magento Performance on Percona Server and XtraDB Cluster

Nexcess, a leading provider of performance-optimized Magento hosting, has announced the publication of a white paper detailing the results of comprehensive performance testing of Magento with Percona Server and Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC)

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Nexcess, a leading provider of performance-optimized Magento hosting, has announced the publication of a white paper detailing the results of comprehensive performance testing of Magento with Percona Server and Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC). The testing included both Magento 1.x and the Magento 2 Beta and focused on performance for database imports, reindexing, and real-world traffic simulations with a single-node Percona Server configuration and a multi-node PXC cluster.

Percona Server versus Percona XtraDB Cluster: A Magento Case Study can be downloaded for free and includes a complete technical breakdown of the methodology, configurations, and test results.

"Nexcess' Magento hosting offers phenomenal performance because we invest significant time, effort, and expertise into crafting the ideal hardware and software environment for the Magento application," commented Chris Wells, President and CEO of Nexcess, "Our most recent white paper represents the results of extensive in-house testing to determine the best performing database solution to use with Magento. We have released our results in the hope that they can benefit the wider Magento community."

Magento is a dynamic application that depends heavily on database queries to build pages and carry out eCommerce transactions. Database performance is one of the most important factors impacting Magento performance and, therefore, the experience of eCommerce retail customers.

The test series subjected Magento installations to numerous tests with Magento-supplied sample profiles that were used to generate sample data of differing sizes ranging from databases representing single sites with 800 products and 20 customers to multiple sites with 50,000 products and 2,000 customers. Traffic simulation was carried out using the Apache jMeter script.

Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC) offers a number of advantages that make it an appealing choice for eCommerce hosts. PXC's use of multiple database nodes presents opportunities for enhanced scalability, load balancing, and redundancy. But those advantages must be balanced against any potential performance implications. Nexcess' testing was designed to discover which solution was suited to use with Magento on the company's performance-optimized hosting platform.
