Varonis Launches Compatibility With Office 365, Providing Peace of Mind for Businesses Moving to the Cloud

Permissions Visibility, Auditing and Data Classification in O365 Environment

NEW YORK, May 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Varonis Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRNS), the leading provider of software solutions for unstructured, human-generated enterprise data, today announced the beta availability of its new cloud compatibility with Microsoft Office 365 Services for Enterprise. By supporting Office 365, Varonis continues to raise the bar in enabling organizations of all sizes to analyze, protect, manage and share their rapidly growing volumes of unstructured data regardless of where the data is stored: on premise, in the cloud, or in hybrid environments.

Office 365 Visibility

Varonis previously announced that it would be extending its Metadata Framework to offer permissions visibility, auditing and data classification functionality for Microsoft's Office 365 platforms, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Active Directory hosted in Azure. New functionality is now available for testing. This will provide the data management, access and security required for organizations looking to extend their heavily used business applications into the cloud while maintaining the same peace of mind that Varonis solutions instill on premise. Users will be able to see where their sensitive data lies, who has access to it, and who is accessing it -- all within the Office 365 environment.

Office 365 Security Concerns

Organizations are increasingly moving to cloud services for cost reasons, but IT managers have concerns about data security and loss of control. In a flash survey conducted by Varonis at the RSA Conference in San Francisco last month, 67% of respondents stated that their companies are considering moving some or all of their file shares, SharePoint, or Email to Office 365. And 58% of respondents also stated that it would be harder (34%) or much harder (24%) to control data on Office 365 than on premise. Survey respondents represented a mix of CIOs, CISOs, IT Managers, Security Managers, and more, spanning various industries including financial, healthcare, government, entertainment, education, and technology.

Benefits for Hybrid Environments

David Gibson, Varonis Vice President, explained, "These looming security concerns are preventing most organizations from moving their most sensitive data to the cloud, regardless of available security options. Many plan to keep a portion of their data on-premise. With more companies taking this hybrid approach, it can be incredibly difficult to coordinate the tracking of data stored both in the cloud and on premise. Varonis' single-pane view into permissions, activity, and classification allows IT to manage the data all from one platform at the same time. This holistic window into an entire hybrid environment is unique to Varonis, and provides invaluable convenience and peace of mind for IT professionals."

Yaki Faitelson, Varonis Co-Founder and CEO said, "Many of our customers are in the initial stages of moving some of their human-generated data to the cloud, but they're concerned about protecting it. They need to make sure they understand who can and who does use it, and they need to make sure sensitive content is stored in the right places. No technology is better suited to help them protect and manage this data, on premise or in the cloud, than the Varonis Metadata Framework. The elasticity of our platform has once again allowed us to meet the needs of our current and future customers, and empower them to be confident that their data is managed and secure, regardless of where it lives."
