Smithfield Foods' Michael D. Flemming Appointed to Virginia State University Board


SMITHFIELD, Va., June 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Michael D. Flemming, vice president and corporate general counsel for Smithfield Foods., Inc., has been appointed to the board of visitors for Virginia State University (VSU) by Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

Flemming, of Alexandria, will serve a four-year term on the VSU board. Flemming joined Smithfield Foods in 2005 after 20 years as a partner in the law firm of McGuireWoods LLP. Flemming earned a bachelor's degree from Davidson College and law degree from the Georgetown University Law School.

Virginia State University, founded in 1882, is one of Virginia's two land-grant institutions, and is located south of Richmond in the village of Ettrick.
