NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jul 14, 2015) - Instacart (www.instacart.com), the fast-growing delivery service whose workers hand-pick and deliver items from trusted local stores, announced today that it's now delivering from Petco and Unleashed by Petco in New York City. The service, called PetcoNow™, is the first on-demand delivery service in the pet specialty retail category and will give New York City pet parents the ability to access all of the Petco and Unleashed by Petco quality pet products they need, delivered directly to their door in as little as two hours. The launch is being supported by a multi-channel marketing campaign to build awareness and drive demand.
Initially, PetcoNow will be available in select zip codes within Upper and Lower Manhattan as well as Brooklyn. Over time, Instacart and Petco plan to expand the coverage to more zip codes within the New York City delivery area.
In January 2015, Instacart announced a delivery pilot with Petco, marking its first non-grocery retail partnership. In April, the two companies formalized and expanded the partnership to all of Instacart's existing delivery markets, with the exception of New York City. As of today, Instacart provides Petco delivery in all 16 U.S. metro areas it serves including New York. For a list of all cities served by Instacart, visit https://www.instacart.com/locations.
"Demand for the PetcoNow delivery service has exceeded our expectations in every market," said Brad Weston, Petco EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer. "Customer feedback has been positive, and we're seeing strong growth in week-over-week orders, as well as repeat orders in every city where PetcoNow is offered. We're proud to now serve pet parents in New York City."
"We are very excited to now offer PetcoNow delivery to pet parents in New York," said Nilam Ganenthiran, head of business development and strategy for Instacart. "New York City presents unique logistics challenges. In recent weeks, Instacart has worked to hone the complex logistics required to deliver everything from a 2-ounce bag of fish food to 50-pound bags of dog food in the crowded streets of New York. We're proud of the result and look forward to expanding this valuable service to our New York City customers."
Originally launched in San Francisco and since expanded into many other cities, Instacart has fundamentally changed the traditional grocery delivery space by connecting customers with workers who shop for and deliver grocery orders providing their own transportation in as little as one hour. This eliminates the need for costly infrastructure such as inventory, warehouses and trucks. In January 2015, Forbes named Instacart, "America's Most Promising Company."
Customers can open an account at www.Instacart.com, and get free delivery on their first order of $10 or more. Instacart also offers Instacart Express -- an annual membership that eliminates delivery fees for all orders of $35 or more. The cost is just $99 per year. Customers can sign up for a free two-week trial at www.instacart.com/express.
