MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 13, 2015) - Bee Vectoring Technologies International Inc. ("BVT") (TSX VENTURE:BEE) is pleased to announce the official opening of its new, state of the art production and research facility in Mississauga, Ontario.
The 7000-square-foot facility will house a team of internationally recognized scientists with expertise that encompass crop pest management, soil science, plant pathology and crop disease management and prediction.
Within this new facility, BVT will have the ability to manufacture up to $100 Million worth of products annually to be used within its crop protection and delivery systems.
BVT's crop protection technologies include tray dispensers that contain a unique carrier agent designed to adhere to commercially reared bees, using them as natural delivery mechanisms through the pollination process for a variety of pathogen controls. This proprietary process replaces certain traditional toxic methods of chemical pesticide spraying.
BVT CEO Michael Collinson said of the facility's launch, "This is a major milestone in the commercialization of a solution that has the potential to fundamentally alter how pests and diseases are controlled in the fruit and vegetables we eat. We are fortunate to have a world-class team that has developed this solution. We now have a world class facility that will enable us to scale rapidly and take advantage of significant business development opportunities we are seeing, for a disruptive solution like BVT's in the national and global food growing industry."
BVT's technology is a unique solution which has major market appeal as it directly addresses the rapidly escalating needs of global organic and other growers for biological crop protection," said CLAUDE FLUECKIGER, BVT Board Member & Syngenta Global Product Biology Lawn & Garden Lead.
The economic advantages of BVT's technology compared to conventional disease control and pesticide spraying extend far beyond simple cost comparisons. Additional significant benefits of the proprietary system are in the organic certification of produce with a longer shelf life, the system is environmentally friendly, and prevents disease to crops requiring pollination which notably include sunflowers, strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, almonds, canola, apples and pears, and a higher efficiency of crop protection.
About Bee Vectoring Technologies International Inc.
BVT has developed and owns patent-pending bee vectoring technology (consisting of a proprietary tray dispenser containing a unique carrier agent) that is designed to harmlessly utilize commercially reared bumblebees as natural delivery mechanisms, without water, for a variety of powdered mixtures comprised of organic compounds that inhibit or eliminate common crop diseases, while at the same time stimulating and enhancing the same crops. This unique and proprietary process facilitates a targeted delivery of crop controls to flowering using the simple process of bee pollination to replace traditional crop spraying, resulting in better yield, organic product and less impact on the environment without the use of water or disruptions to labour.
