Elsevier Publishes Five New Neuroscience Books and Atlases

New Publications Debut at SfN's Neuroscience 2015 in Chicago, October 17-20

WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwired - October 15, 2015) - Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the publication of five new neuroscience books and atlases, including MRI/DTI Atlas of the Rat Brain by George Paxinos, Charles Watson, Evan Calabrese, Alexandra Badea and G. Allan Johnson. The publications will be on display at the upcoming Society for Neuroscience's (SfN) annual meeting, Neuroscience 2015 at Elsevier booth #134, October 17-20.

MRI/DTI Atlas of the Rat Brain is the first atlas to offer comprehensive MRI and DTI coverage of the rat brain. It offers two major enhancements when compared with earlier attempts to make MRI/DTI rat brain atlases. First, the spatial resolution at 25µm is considerably higher than previous data published. Second, the comprehensive set of MRI/DTI contrasts provided has enabled the authors to identify more than 80% of structures identified in The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates.

Lead author Dr. George Paxinos has published nearly 50 books on the structure of the brain of humans and experimental animals, including The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, now in its 7th Edition, which is ranked by Thomson ISI as one of the 50 most cited items in the Web of Science. He paved the way for future neuroscience research by being the first to produce a three-dimensional (stereotaxic) framework for placement of electrodes and injections in the brain of experimental animals, which is now used as an international standard.

To support neuroscience researchers and students, Elsevier is providing a series of free digital volumes to encourage learning and development in neuroscience. The volumes include excerpts from Elsevier books focused on a central theme to give the reader an introduction to new ideas and information on a topic.

Also at the Elsevier booth at SfN's Neuroscience 2015, attendees can meet authors and editors, including Dr. Paxinos, Dr. Pascal Wallisch, Dr. Seymour Diamond, Dr. Larry Edelstein, Dr. Joaquin Fuster, Dr. Edgar Garcia-Rill and Dr. Gülgün Sengül. They will be at the booth on Monday, October 19, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm and Tuesday, October 20, 11:00 am - 12:00 noon. Attendees visiting the booth during those times will be entered into drawings to win one of their books. Elsevier uses proprietary tools to identify knowledge gaps in fields such as neuroscience. Editorial teams then strategically fill those gaps with content written by key influencers in the field, giving students, faculty and researchers the content they need to answer challenging questions and improve outcomes. These new books and atlases are key examples of how Elsevier is enabling science to drive innovation. The new books are:

The books are available on the Elsevier Store and some are available on ScienceDirect, Elsevier's full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from over 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 33,000 book titles.
