ATLANTA, Oct. 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Car accident chiropractor Dr. Jared Simon is warning Atlanta drivers to exercise caution on the roads this holiday season. In particular, Dr. Simon is urging caution on Thanksgiving Eve (“Black Wednesday”) due to the high volume of people drinking and driving. While the period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve is well known for its increase in drunk driving, Thanksgiving Eve is a relatively new concern that not everyone is familiar with, says Dr. Simon. Should an accident occur, including a minor fender bender, Dr. Simon recommends accident victims receive an immediate diagnostic exam and prompt chiropractic care.
The upcoming holiday season means more cars on the road and an increased risk for car accidents, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The most traveled period is Thanksgiving weekend. According to NHTSA statistics, Thanksgiving Eve – referred to as “Black Wednesday” – is especially dangerous for drunk driving accidents as it has become one of the busiest nights of the year for bars.
“Thanksgiving weekend is already an incredibly hectic time for car travel,” said Dr. Jared Simon, Atlanta chiropractor and founder of Century Center Chiropractic. “What many people do not realize, however, is how many people go out drinking the night before Thanksgiving, end up having too much, and then attempt to drive home. Even if you are not out celebrating with family or friends, if you’re on the road, it’s important to be extra vigilant and alert. Defensive driving is key to reduce the risk for an auto accident.”
The risk for a car accident also soars between Christmas and New Year’s, due in part to an increase in the number of alcohol-impaired drivers on the road.
“As a result of holiday parties and gatherings, more drivers are impaired by alcohol,” said Dr. Simon. “Unfortunately, many people continue to believe it’s okay to drive after just one or two drinks. All it takes is one drink to slow reaction speeds. Combine this with distractions like texting while driving, not to mention the potential for icy road conditions due to bad weather, and you’ve got a recipe for dangerous driving.”
In the event of a car accident, including a seemingly minor fender bender, Dr. Simon says that prompt treatment is instrumental to preventing serious pain complications.
