The essay winner selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic school year. The ElectricityMatch team is honored to be a part of students' educational endeavors.


The scholarship was created to encourage students who have ideas to share on home energy matters as they pursue their educations.

ElectricityMatch will hold an essay contest to award a scholarship prize of $1,000 to a deserving student to apply toward tuition and books. The funds will be distributed to the winning student's college or university for the academic school year.



Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a 2- or 4-year accredited American university or college and be highly motivated to attain their education.

To apply, students must submit a 700-word essay discussing the following topic:

• The electricity flowing into our homes is viewed in terms of what it does for us. It is air conditioning, lighting, and the invisible stuff that powers our electronics. How would you encourage energy conservation without consumers viewing it as sacrificing comfort?

The essay submission deadline is 12:00 a.m. EST May 31 for the 2016-2017 academic school year. The selected scholarship committee will then review the submitted essays. The winner will be announced on July 15 on the ElectricityMatch website. The winner will also be notified via email.
