Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris Praises BYD’s New Environmentally Friendly Electric Truck Line

Newly Introduced Vehicles will be Assembled at BYD’s Lancaster Manufacturing Facilities

LANCASTER, Calif., May 04, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris today praised the continued evolution of BYD’s environmentally friendly Master Plan, after the company announced plans to bring a full array of electric trucks to the marketplace. The upcoming trucks are aimed directly at one of the key sources of pollutants in North American cities -- diesel trucks. BYD already builds a variety of superior electric busses at its North American Manufacturing Facilities located in Lancaster, and plans to build the new truck line in Lancaster as well.

“Our City continues to work tirelessly toward our goal of becoming the nation’s first municipality to be completely net-zero. As such, BYD’s entry into the electric truck market is very welcome news,” said City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris.  “I’m more than confident that the North American leadership team of BYD will continue to make great strides toward their ecologically friendly master plan – and along the way, the entire northern Los Angeles County region will benefit from the growing amount of jobs the Lancaster facility provides.”

BYD announced the upcoming truck line yesterday at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Long Beach. The company has its sights squarely set on the commercial side of the industry and is charging forward at a rapid pace.  Since BYD has proclaimed itself the “Official Sponsor of Mother Nature,” this product line expansion is a natural next step toward improving the air quality of North America cities.

“This year, BYD is taking a bold step forward to unveil a new line up of battery-powered vehicle applications, giving customers more options to save on fuel and operational costs by going all- electric,” said Stella Li, President of BYD Motors. “As a battery company first and foremost, we know this technology is safe and ready for widespread use in a variety of applications. And with our industry-leading, 12-year-battery warranty, fleet managers can be assured these vehicles will operate reliably for the entire life of the vehicle, allowing them to save tens of thousands of dollars per year, per vehicle over the lifetime of the vehicle.”

Both the truck and busses leverage BYD’s competency in building high-power, long-range vehicles which take full advantage of BYD’s mastery of batteries. In fact, the new truck line will feature the same technologies that BYD has already perfected in its electric busses.
