Regional Grocer Geissler’s Cuts Energy Consumption and Cost with World Energy Efficiency Services

Family-owned Supermarket Chain Finds Value in Comprehensive Roll Out of Energy Efficient Lighting, Refrigeration and Controls Backed by Utility Incentives

WORCESTER, Mass., June 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- World Energy Efficiency Services, a leading provider of turn-key energy-efficiency services in New England, today announced it is implementing a comprehensive set of energy efficiency technologies on behalf of Geissler’s Supermarket (Geissler’s), a family-owned grocery chain with seven stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The multi-store engagement, which includes a completed lighting and mechanical retrofit at the company’s Windsor, Conn. store, a current implementation at its Agawam, Mass. facility, and auditing the remaining five locations for additional energy-reduction opportunities, is set to save the grocer over $350,000 annually, reducing its electricity use by approximately 30%.

Grocery stores and supermarkets are among the most energy-intensive buildings on a per-square-foot basis, and energy ranks among the top operational costs in this segment. Wanting to address this large, growing cost, Geissler’s turned to World Energy Efficiency Services based on the firm’s proven success serving grocers and experience providing comprehensive energy efficiency solutions for businesses across New England.

Beginning with an energy audit at Geissler’s Windsor store, World Energy Efficiency Services identified numerous energy-saving opportunities, spanning lighting, refrigeration and controls. As a result of implementing LED lighting, lighting automation controls, refrigeration equipment, variable frequency drives and HVAC controls, Geissler’s slashed its energy use in this store by 28%.

Critical to this project, and to the viability of implementing these measures across all Geissler’s stores, was World Energy Efficiency Services’ ability to work seamlessly with Eversource and the Energize Connecticut Small Business Energy Advantage (SBEA) program. Through this relationship, World Energy Efficiency Services was able to secure for Geissler’s the maximum incentive possible from the program – 50% – along with interest-free, on-bill financing. Together, these financing benefits are enabling Geissler’s to dramatically reduce energy use without large capital expense.

“For years we had been bombarded with energy offers by various parties, but finally we chose to work with World Energy Efficiency Services because they listened more, understood our business better, and showed us a clear, compelling path to savings,” said James Nilsson, Jr., President, Geissler’s Supermarket. “In our business, reputation is everything, and we have found in World Energy Efficiency Services an energy partner who does what they say they are going to do and makes you want to work with them by delivering results. We like what energy efficiency looks like now at our Windsor store and are eager to bring these gains to all our Connecticut and Massachusetts locations.”

Added Mike Santangelo, Vice President, World Energy Efficiency Services: “It is very satisfying to bring the best of 21st century energy-efficiency technologies to the businesses of New England, especially ones like Geissler’s that have been in operation for decades and have continued to distinguish themselves by delivering quality goods and great customer service. Additionally, the grocery segment remains an industry ripe for energy-efficiency gains, and we continue to have success there by delivering comprehensive solutions – lighting, cooling, automation – and working in sync with all the major utilities to ensure our customers get the financial support they need to make their energy efficiency initiatives a winning proposition from day one.”
