Greystone’s Tanya Eastwood Appointed President of Council for Affordable and Rural Housing

NEW YORK, June 29, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Greystone, a real estate lending, investment and advisory company, announced that Tanya Eastwood, head of Greystone’s affordable housing development group, has been elected President of the Council for Affordable and Rural Housing (CARH) for the 2016-2018 term.

CARH is a national non-profit trade organization that represents the interests of over 300 companies involved in the building, development, financing, management and ownership of housing in rural areas across the country. CARH represents the views and concerns of its members before Congress and appropriate officials at the Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Treasury, and before state housing finance agencies and other state and local agencies that focus on housing.

Ms. Eastwood has been involved with CARH for several years, including in past roles as Secretary of the Executive Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors. At Greystone, Ms. Eastwood manages a business line devoted to recapitalizing and preserving affordable housing across the U.S., with a concentration in rural areas. To date, her group has preserved over 7,300 units of affordable housing in states including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. In addition to these states, similar activities to preserve another 7,800 units are underway in Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Texas. These tax-exempt bond transactions typically involve orchestrating millions in financing via USDA, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, HUD, Government Sponsored Entities such as Fannie Mae, and other sources to make substantial rehabilitation possible while keeping residents in place.

“I’m incredibly honored to serve as President of CARH, and hope that my tenure leaves a positive impact on the entire spectrum of those involved with rural affordable housing,” said Ms. Eastwood. “While the housing sector adjusts to a new Administration and potentially new policies in the coming years, it’s critical that the interests of the rural affordable housing sector be protected and elevated to ensure that housing be created, preserved and invested in, for those needing it the most. I hope that my perspective in finance, development and preservation proves to be valuable to the organization, and I look forward to this opportunity.”

“I very much look forward to having Tanya as CARH’s President for the next two years,” said Colleen M. Fisher, Executive Director of CARH. “Tanya’s expertise in rural preservation issues and the high stature of Greystone in the affordable housing arena will be a tremendous benefit to CARH and our members, especially as a new Administration comes on board after the November elections.”
