indico to Present at Sentiment Analysis Symposium

The Unreasonable Advantages of Deep Learning

BOSTON, June 30, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- indico, an innovator in the machine learning and artificial intelligence space, will make a presentation on deep learning at the Sentiment Analysis Symposium, which takes place in New York, July 12th. Dr. Daniel Kuster, a researcher at indico, will focus on the differences between deep learning and traditional machine learning approaches, and how the advantages of deep learning can be exploited to quickly gain new insights about what people say online, and how they say it. The presentation will take place at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center Campus in New York City.

The Unreasonable Advantages of Deep Learning
Presenter: Dr. Daniel Kuster, indico
July 12, 2016   2:35 – 2:55 p.m.
Fordham University’s Lincoln Center Campus
Leon Lowenstein Center – Pope Auditorium
113 W 60th Street, New York, NY

Machine learning is becoming the tool of choice for analyzing text and image data.  While traditional text processing solutions rely on the ability of experts to encode domain knowledge, machine learning models learn directly from the data. Deep learning is a branch of machine learning that like the human brain quickly learns hierarchical representations of concepts. It has been key to unlocking state-of-the-art results on a range of text and image classification tasks such as sentiment analysis and beyond.

In this session, Dr. Kuster will show the impact of a deep learning based approach over NLP and traditional machine learning based methods for text analysis across key dimensions such as accuracy, flexibility, and the amount of required training data. He will discuss how deep learning models are setting records for state-of-the-art accuracy in sentiment analysis and demonstrate how the features learned by one model can be easily reused in different domains (e.g., handling additional languages, or predicting new categories) to drastically reduce the time to deployment. Finally, he will touch on the ability of this method to handle additional types of data beyond text; e.g., images, for maximum insight.

Kuster is a deep learning researcher at indico, where he develops technology to automate the analysis of images and text. He has led many data science projects at Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies, nonprofits, and startups.

About the Sentiment Analysis Symposium
The Symposium is the first conference to address the business value of sentiment, opinion, emotion, and intent in online, social and enterprise data. Its audience is comprised of business analysts, developers, researchers, and solution providers. The July 12 conference program offers a slate of technology, solution, and business presentations; the optional half-day July 11 tutorial provides an in-depth technical introduction.

The symposium is organized and produced by Alta Plana Corporation and chaired by Alta Plana principal consultant Seth Grimes. Seth founded Alta Plana in 1997 to deliver business analytics strategy consulting services with a focus on advanced analytics (text analytics, sentiment analysis, BI, and data visualization) and product and market positioning to solution providers and user organizations. Contact Seth at +1 301-270-0795 or via e-mail at grimes@altaplana.com, and visit him on Twitter at @SethGrimes.
