Linda Taetz Offers Solutions to Whistleblower Actions During CLM Panel Presentation

HAYWARD, Calif., July 11, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Linda Taetz, Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer for Mariner Health Central, Inc., was a featured panel presenter at the 2016 Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) Midwest Conference held in Omaha. Her session entitled “Whistle While You Work – How to Prevent Activity Leading to Whistleblower Actions and Protect Health Organizations and Medical Practices from Whistleblower Threats” allowed Taetz to share practical and implementable suggestions garnered from her decades of experience as a registered nurse and licensed nursing home administrator.

Taetz and her fellow panelists utilized an interactive approach with conference participants in discussing how whistleblowers, both real and purported, have become a part of everyday business life.  Key takeaways were that a failure to prepare for complaints about illegal and/or unethical activities, and ignoring or minimizing these complaints, is a recipe for disaster.  The presentation offered tested methodology that organizations could employ to identify whistleblowers, the sources of whistleblower complaints, and the appropriate handling of complaints.  In addition, the substantial risks associated with responding to complaints were discussed, with concrete recommendations for steps companies can take to prepare and protect the organization before a complaint is made.  Finally, there was a focus on technology policies that can be implemented to protect companies from whistleblowers.

Taetz noted that "Whistleblower threats are some of the most daunting challenges healthcare professionals face today. Whistleblowers reflect the transparent nature of our society and healthcare organizations must emphasize the development and maintenance of a robust Compliance program to help avoid the serious ramifications of whistleblowing on our practice and operation.”
