THETFORD MINES, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 17, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
The Government of Canada is proud to support tourist attractions that, like the Centre historique de la mine King (KB3), link past to future while renewing the tourism offering in the regions of Quebec.
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announces that the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines has been granted $450,000 in non-repayable funding for the design, construction and installation of interpretation stations, the conversion of mine facilities and the installation of an architectural lighting system and an anti-intrusion and communication system.
Created by the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines on the initiative of the Town of Thetford Mines, KB3 will offer visitors the opportunity to discover the region's rich mining heritage. The new history centre, which was officially inaugurated in Thetford Mines, will also include a major one-of-a-kind tourist facility: an animated mine park housing several pavilions and interpretation stations as well as a public market.
The financial assistance was granted through CED's Canadian Initiative for the Economic Diversification of Communities Reliant on Chrysotile, a funding initiative designed to support projects aimed at diversifying economic activity in the Regional County Municipalities (RCMs) of Des Appalaches and Des Sources.
