MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwired - August 30, 2016) - In response to Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards' concerns over the potential spread of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne illness, Terminix, a ServiceMaster Company (
"I am so grateful for the incredibly thoughtful donation from Terminix," said Gov. Edwards. "They are helping us fight against the very real threats of mosquito-borne illness here in Louisiana, where we are keeping a close eye on the risk of the West Nile virus and the Zika virus in the wake of recent historic flooding. I appreciate Terminix joining me in making public safety a top priority as we continue to work toward a full recovery for the people who have been deeply impacted by this tragedy."
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people of Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas as they continue to recover from this month's devastating flood," said Mary Kay Wegner, Senior Vice President, Service and Operations at Terminix. "Many of our employees and customers were impacted by these catastrophic floods. We hope our product donation helps Baton Rouge families, and improves the situation in Louisiana as these communities begin to rebuild."
On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Wegner will meet with employees at the Baton Rouge branch of Terminix to announce the donations, which have a combined retail value of approximately $67,000. Terminix will deliver 7,700 cans of ALLCLEAR® Mosquito Bait & Kill solution to the Red Cross disaster relief operations warehouse. Local technicians will also travel door-to-door to pass out the additional 2,500 cans to customers and families in need.
"The flooding in Louisiana has brought devastation and uncertainty to tens of thousands of people in the area," said Elizabeth Penniman, Vice President of Communications for the American Red Cross. "Thanks to the generosity of partners like Terminix, the Red Cross was able to immediately open shelters, distribute relief supplies and provide comfort to people hit hard by this historic event."
Terminix ALLCLEAR® uses a patented mosquito control approach to kill adult mosquitoes and stop their breeding cycle. The spray is an outdoor property-protection product and protects areas up to 2,500 square feet. The spray is an easy-to-use, environmentally-friendly control that is safe for people and pets, yet deadly for mosquitoes. To further protect against mosquito bites and possible illness from mosquito-borne diseases, Terminix recommends using personal repellents with EPA-approved active ingredients, including picaridin, DEET or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
The product donation by Terminix, a business unit of ServiceMaster Global Holdings, Inc. (
"Today's product donation from Terminix is a reflection of ServiceMaster's commitment to help and support its customers and employees, as well as their communities," said Wegner.
