Tesora Collaborates with Red Hat to Deliver Certified OpenStack-based Database as a Service Platform

Makes widest array of databases accessible via OpenStack public and private clouds

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 31, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tesora today announced a collaboration with Red Hat to offer a certified, highly-scalable and open database as a service (DBaaS) with robust security functionality for Red Hat OpenStack Platform. With support for popular SQL and NoSQL databases, a broad array of enterprise industry databases can now be managed through a single, unified and certified platform while still leveraging the best native capabilities of each database.

Through the combination of Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Tesora Database as a Service Platform, enterprises can use their existing knowledge and database investments, improve operational efficiency, and potentially lower their total cost of ownership for building and managing databases.

Organizations using Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Tesora can reduce their time to market for new applications by empowering developers with self-service database provisioning and management. Also, developers can choose the most suitable database for the task with a choice of 15 open source and commercial database management systems.

“Red Hat is a leader in the OpenStack ecosystem and this certified solution will bring the power of self-service databases to Red Hat OpenStack Platform clouds,” said Ken Rugg, CEO of Tesora. “Tesora’s implementation of OpenStack Trove is an advanced platform for database as a service, offering Red Hat users capabilities for managing backup and restores, increasing security with user permissions and automated patch management while enabling compliance with corporate standards, as well as regulations for privacy, security, and data sovereignty.”

Since Tesora DBaaS is based on OpenStack Trove, it integrates easily with other core OpenStack services. Tesora is the leading contributor to the Trove project, alongside Red Hat and others.

“Now, Red Hat OpenStack Platform users can easily add database as a service to their private and public clouds that include many databases they’re already using,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager, OpenStack, Red Hat. “By collaborating with Tesora, we’re enabling customers to realize the potential of OpenStack combined with a myriad of supported databases, enabling them to increase flexibility, and their ability to provision single instances, replicas, and clusters through a single API.”

Tesora Database as a Service Platform is certified with and can be used as a component of any Red Hat OpenStack Platform installation. Benefits of the offering include:

- Support for SQL and NoSQL databases certified by Tesora including Oracle, MySQL Enterprise, DataStax Enterprise, MongoDB Enterprise, Cassandra, EnterpriseDB, PostgreSQL Enterprise, and MariaDB;
