Healthix Engages Verato, Inc. to Enhance Patient Matching and Linking within their HIE Platform

NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Healthix, the largest public health information exchange (HIE) in the nation, today announced that it has engaged Verato, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based patient matching solutions, to enhance their patient matching application. Healthix matches patient records from many sources for more than 16 million patients and delivers health information to hundreds of participating organizations that span nearly 1,400 facilities across New York City and Long Island. With the patient's consent, Healthix enables clinicians to view their patient's composite record, receive notifications when an important event happens and support population health management.

Given the size and diversity of Healthix participating organizations, from large complex health systems to single provider practices, accurate and efficient matching and linking of patient records across the HIE is fundamental. Healthix will leverage Verato's innovative, big-data approach to supplement their current patient-matching functionality and push its state-of-the-art patient matching to the next level.

"Our mission is to help our participants provide better care by facilitating the secure exchange of information between them," said Thomas Check, President and CEO of Healthix. "To do this, we want to offer the best technical solutions available to match and link records of millions of patients, each of whom may visit dozens of healthcare institutions over the course of their lives, and many of whom have similar identifying information like name and birthdate. Together, with the dedicated work of our staff and participating organizations, the Verato solution will further enhance our efforts to achieve real-time high-accuracy matching of patient identities in cases where it is especially difficult."

As part of a multi-year subscription, Verato will automatically process millions of Healthix's most difficult match decisions, a process that now requires time-consuming manual review. After a competitive test with other technologies, Healthix decided to implement the Verato solution because of the quality of match results it provided, its ability to provide substantiated data for its match decisions, its real-time capabilities, and its proven expertise in healthcare and matching technology.

"Patient matching is at the core of major improvements needed in the quality of care and economy of care in healthcare, both of which depend on the free flow of patient information between providers," said Mark LaRow, CEO of Verato. "Unlike traditional patient matching solutions, Verato's approach isn't limited by underlying patient data that is inconsistent, out-of-date, or incomplete. We use a reference dataset that essentially provides an answer key for all identity matching questions, enabling healthcare organizations to achieve much greater match rates at far less cost and effort than any other approach. And because we're cloud-based, we can start delivering value to organizations in days and weeks, not months and years."

About Verato

Verato offers a cloud-based patient matching platform that links patient identities across disparate databases or organizations with the highest accuracy rates in the industry. Verato leverages an extensive self-learning database of US identities as a universal "answer key" for identity data. Using this database as a reference, Verato links patient information 15 times better than existing technologies. And because it is cloud-based, the Verato platform is less expensive, faster to implement, and more scalable than traditional data quality, data integration, and Master Patient Index (MPI) solutions. The Verato platform can act as a standalone MPI, or can be used to quickly and easily boost the matching performance of large MPI implementations. Verato is based in McLean, VA.
