LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - October 05, 2016) - The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosts its eighth annual "Women Behind the Music" series on October 12th at 7:00 PM at Bardot in Los Angeles. This year's honorees are a group of influential and powerful women who have tipped the scales in their profession and surpassed glass ceilings in a male-dominated entertainment industry: hit songwriter and ASCAP member Priscilla Renea, music executive Dominique Dunn and talent manager Eufaula Garrett.
ASCAP's "Women Behind the Music" series is designed to encourage and recognize women in the music community, honoring not only singers and songwriters but also female executives in all facets of the entertainment business including managers, attorneys, label executives and music publishers. The 2016 honorees are:
Priscilla Renea - In the Spring of 2007, Priscilla packed her bags and moved from Vero Beach to Atlanta, Georgia and began writing music for some of today's biggest stars. It was during this time that she learned her talents surpassed the expectations of many and her next stop had to be the entertainment capital of the world, Los Angeles. Priscilla's impressive resume now includes hits for the likes of Nick Jonas ("Bacon"), Fifth Harmony ("Worth It"), Pitbull and Kesha ("Timber"), Rihanna ("California King Bed," "Watch N' Learn"), Miranda Lambert featuring Carrie Underwood ("Something Bad"), Chris Brown ("Don't Wake Me Up"), and Madonna ("Love Spent," & "Gang Bang"). This October, she will be featured alongside Meek Mill and Pusha T on the soundtrack for the Oscar contending film "Birth of a Nation."
Eufaula Garrett - Eufaula serves as EVP of New Business Development for André "3000" Benjamin. As brand and talent manager for the musician/actor/designer, she negotiated a three-year development deal with Paramount / MTV, which yielded several successful acquired projects. She also co-produced the Emmy-winning 'Class of 3000' on Cartoon Network and has been instrumental in the launch of the lauded fashion line, Benjamin Bixby. In 2014, Garrett oversaw all operations for the OUTKAST 20th Anniversary Global Tour, including the group's historic return to Atlanta for three record-breaking, sold-out nights at Centennial Park. Most recently, she was the 2016 WCLK Jazz Legend Award recipient for her on-going philanthropic support of the music industry.
Dominique Dunn - Starting as an intern at Def Jam Records, Dominique "Domo" Dunn has been fortunate to both learn from and advise some of the best creative minds in the business. Dominique's work with a host of hitmakers led her to become a Roc Nation A&R executive, working with artists such as Jay Z, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora, and Shakira. While discovering songs like Rihanna's number one hit, "Stay," and more recently, "Love On the Brain," she began managing several talented songwriters, producers and artists, and since then, has worked her way up to become Vice President of Publishing at Roc Nation.
Previous ASCAP "Women Behind the Music" honorees have included: Hip-hop legends Salt-N-Pepa, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jazmine Sullivan, celebrity deejay JaKissa "DJ Kiss" Taylor-Semple, singer-songwriter K. Michelle, Billboard Senior Editor Gail Mitchell, Motown Record's Vice President of Creative Relations Myisha Brooks, General Manager of Tree Sound Studios Mali Hunter and CEO of Mizay Entertainment Debra Antney.
This year's event will feature a Q&A session moderated by ASCAP Associate Director of Rhythm & Soul Membership Moya Nkruma followed by a post-cocktail reception with special performances and music provided by DJ Niena Drake. Bardot is located at 1737 Vine Street in Los Angeles, CA. The event is sponsored by Unique London, MAC Cosmetics, Sashay Wax, Luxe Therapy and The Braid Bar.
