In the second year of this collaborative credit union event, referred to as “Plus It Forward,” several TopLine employees will be volunteering to benefit our local non-profit partners, Community Emergency Assistance Programs (CEAP) and Keystone Community Services.  Volunteers will be making a positive impact in the communities that TopLine serves by providing assistance in a food shelf, thrift store or helping to prepare for an annual community spaghetti dinner event.

“We are thrilled to take part in this joint community give-back effort to inspire others to scatter kindness across our Minnesota communities,” says Tom Smith, TopLine President and CEO.  “This is really an extension of what TopLine, and credit unions, do all year long, and showcases the true power of working together to make a difference.  We look forward to having a fun day making a positive impact in our communities.”

Credit unions are committed to the foundational philosophy of “People Helping People,” which is demonstrated by their cooperative structures, support of financial education, and active engagement within their communities.  Around the state, more than 1,200 credit union employees will dedicate 7,300 total volunteer hours to scatter kindness in their communities. Participating credit unions estimate that the collective reach through efforts on this day will impact more than 22,000 people across 65 Minnesota communities.

The statewide day of kindness was inspired by Plus It Forward Day, an event created by Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in 2013.  Since then, credit unions and others have collectively worked together to shape local give-back efforts.

CEAP (Community Emergency Assistance Program), serving Hennepin and Anoka Counties, is a community-based, non-profit agency that partners with other resources to assist people in need.  The mission of CEAP is to stabilize individuals and families in financial distress and to maximize their ability to live independently and with dignity.  CEAP’s Clothing Closet is where families in need can shop for donated, gently used clothing.  The Closet is a free service, available January through November, to all Minnesota residents.  Visit www.CEAP.com to learn more.

Keystone Community Services, named for the strong connecting stone at the center of an arch, is a community-based volunteer organization in St. Paul, Minnesota that helps thousands of low-income individuals and families in the East Metro Area.  The organization’s programs include food shelves, a support program for Hmong youth and their families, and a comprehensive program for seniors.  Keystone’s mission is to strengthen the capacity of individuals and families to improve their quality of life.  Learn more at http://www.keystoneservices.org.
