Successful launch of C-RAD’s Global Clinical Training Program

Press release 2016-11-23

C-RAD, in cooperation with two academic partners, has launched a clinical training program for surface image guided radiation therapy (SIGRT). The first edition took place at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio focusing on SIGRT for breast cancer treatments.

The scope of the Global Clinical Training Program is to provide users of C-RAD technology with a profound training to optimize usage of SIGRT within radiation therapy and therewith elevate the standard of care in the home clinics of the participants. “With the program, we are targeting users of C-RAD SIGRT technology that have already experience using the system and aim to extend the clinical application of their system or seek for a refresher training to optimize their individual implementation.” says Tim Thurn, CEO of C-RAD.

The teaching and learning content has been developed with academic partners and selected users from Europe and from the U.S. The first two partner sites to host the clinical training program are the Skåne University Hospital in Lund, Sweden and University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The educational leadership of the program is with Malin Kuegele, M.Sc. and Alonso N. Gutiérrez, Ph.D.

“This training program is very valuable for me. It provides me with information about how and why the C-RAD System works. The instructors are very passionate with their presentations. As a physicist recently starting to use C-RAD at our main campus at Yale, I appreciate this training course very much.” Says Huixiao Chen, Ph.D., Medical Physicist from the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale University School of Medicine.

The courses will be offered on a regular basis with changing clinical topics. The program is conducted in small groups of up to 10 participants. The format enables efficient learning based on practical training and creates a platform to share experiences. “It is our aim, that participants return to their home clinics after the training course and implement the new experience and learnings within their treatment facility. The feedback from the participants was very positive.” says Tim Thurn.

The clinical training program is part of C-RAD’s Life Cycle Business and can be ordered as part of a service contract or as a separate service. The training program enrollment is on a rolling base. The next edition will be conducted in the U.S. during spring 2017.

“We are very committed to our customers and have a strong interest, that SIGRT in general is seeing a fast-growing acceptance in the market. The clinical training school is a unique format, where C-RAD is concentrating on ensuring the quality and providing the platform to this linear accelerator vendor neutral educational program.” says Tim Thurn.
