Life Insurance Settlement Association to Host 7th Annual Life Settlement Institutional Investor Conference on January 30th in New York City

WINTER PARK, Fla., Dec. 20, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) today announced that its Seventh Annual Life Settlement Institutional Investor Conference, the leading professional gathering of institutional investors in the life settlements asset class, will be held on January 30, 2017, at The Ritz-Carlton Battery Park in New York City.

“Investors purchased $1.7 billion worth of U.S. life insurance face value in 2015 and there are a number of signs of growing interest in life settlements as a non-correlated asset class for institutional investors,” said Darwin Bayston, president and chief executive officer of LISA. “This conference is a one-stop shop for institutions seeking information about life settlements as an asset class.”

LISA’s Life Settlement Institutional Investor Conference is the hallmark event that brings together professionals from pension funds, hedge funds, family offices, foundations and endowments for updates on the latest developments in the life insurance secondary market. To register now, click here.

“This year’s conference will include an economic outlook, real life investor experiences in the life settlement market, performance and valuation standards, availability of credit, vital life expectancy and actuarial information, in-depth analysis of building and managing a portfolio in the tertiary and secondary markets, the impacts of COI increase on capital and other timely investor-related industry trends,” said Bayston.

The conference will open with a market update and review provided by Scott Hawkins, vice president of Conning Research, publishers of an annual research report covering the life settlement market. The morning sessions will also feature a presentation by Jon Nelson, chief executive officer of Preston Ventures, who will discuss management considerations in portfolio construction and how to target the right mix of policies to achieve investment objectives while avoiding the common mistakes people have made in the past.

The event will close with a special presentation by Lauren Cohen, professor in finance and Marvin Bower Fellow at Harvard Business School. Prof. Cohen will discuss and explore the challenges of measuring and reporting performance of life settlement investments, including the emergence of Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) that provide a consistent methodology for evaluating performance.

Other conference sessions will include:

  • Legislative and Regulatory Issues Impacting Institutional Investors – an update on recent legislative and regulatory developments at the state and federal levels that could impact investors in the secondary and tertiary markets;
  • Capital Availability and Policy Flow: Is There a Mismatch? – a panel discussion that will address secondary market policy flow, one of the most important issues for institutional investors; and
  • Life Settlement Tertiary Market Dynamics -- a session to discuss the dynamics behind the tertiary market as well as a historic perspective of yields in the life settlement market.

“Whether your organization is already investing in the life settlement space or you are only considering the option, this event provides a top-level education in the asset class and opportunities to network with industry participants from virtually every region in the U.S.,” said Bayston.

Discounted conference registration fees and hotel room rates are available for anyone who registers by Friday, January 6th. For more information or to register now, please go to www.lisa.org/events.
