GATLINBURG, TENN., Feb. 7, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sugarlands Distilling Company, distillers of award-winning spirits in East Tennessee, will distribute $60,000 in MoonShare grants in 2017 to nonprofit organizations across the United States.

Twelve deserving organizations were chosen by the public to receive a $5,000 grant to help their respective causes. To view a full list of the 2017 MoonShare recipients, please visit www.moonshare.org.

"Each year we encounter so many people working hard to improve their communities through charitable efforts," said Courtney DeLaura, National Director of MoonShare. "This program is just one way we can bolster their efforts to make this world a better place."

In addition to the monetary award, each of the 12 organizations will be assigned a month to be featured in the "Month to Shine" series on Sugarlands Distilling Company's website and social media platforms to help bring awareness to the cause of each MoonShare recipient.

"The funds from this grant will help ensure we are ready and able to deploy to the next natural disaster," said Felicia Walker of Reach Out Worldwide, a 2017 MoonShare Grant Recipient.

"ROWW operates on the philosophy that by making a difference in just one person's life, the world has been changed for the better," said Walker. "Through this program, Sugarlands is making a difference in hundreds of lives that need it most."

Sugarlands Distilling Company made 2015 its first annual "Year of Giving" by launching MoonShare, a nationwide giveback component of the East Tennessee distillery that helps nonprofit organizations positively influence their communities through MoonShare grants, fundraisers, and donations.

Since 2015, Sugarlands Distilling Co. has donated more than $120,000 to nonprofit organizations and charities across the country.
