Ericsson passes extensive testing for 3.5 GHz CBRS shared spectrum usage with Access SAS

  • Ericsson has passed Access (a division of Alphabet's) extensive Spectrum Access System (SAS) testing for 3.5GHz CBRS spectrum usage in the US - via Access' new Trusted Tester Citizens Broadband Radio Service Device (CBSD) Program
  • The 3.5GHz CBRS band will open up business opportunities for new industry players while offering traditional mobile network operators additional spectral capacity
  • Ericsson continues to innovate with new indoor and outdoor products that support the 3.5GHz CBRS spectrum, including the new high-performing Radio 2208 and Radio Dot System

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has successfully passed Access (a division of Alphabet's)  extensive Spectrum Access System (SAS) testing for 3.5GHz Citizen's Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) band deployments in the US, via Access' new Trusted Tester Citizens Broadband Radio Service Device (CBSD) Program.  The upcoming use of the 3.5GHz CBRS band marks a critical step and a key milestone for innovative deployments and the use of scarce spectrum.

Following the successful interoperability with SAS, Ericsson will release 3.5 GHz CBRS support on the indoor Radio Dot System and add outdoor CBRS capability through the Ericsson Radio System, as a micro radio that is easily mounted on a wall or pole.

With global data traffic growing exponentially, spectrum has become one of the world's most valuable resources, and spectrum sharing expands access to LTE technologies beyond mobile operators into new customer segments and vertical enterprises.

The 3.5GHz CBRS band has been recently approved by the FCC with the goal of improving wireless broadband access and performance, and Ericsson has also joined the CBRS Alliance, an organization dedicated to developing, marketing and promoting LTE-based solutions utilizing the CBRS band. The shared spectrum approach in the CBRS band in particular could become an effective way to facilitate the growth of wireless data, including mobile broadband, IoT and fixed applications.
