Cool Technologies Receives Another International Patent

Global Motorcycle Industry First Target for License

TAMPA, Fla., April 03, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cool Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB:WARM), an innovator in mobile power generation, energy efficiency, and heat removal technologies, has been awarded another international patent for heat pipe cooled wet rotating disc engagement systems, more commonly known as wet clutches or wet disc brakes.  They’re referred to as “wet” because they’re bathed in engine oil.

While the patent technology should increase efficiency, product lifecycle and power transmission capability for applications such as crane and hoist clutches, heavy machine tool drives, automobiles, trucks, tractors and racing vehicles, the motorcycle industry will be the initial target.

“All of our patents have a number of applications. The greater the potential revenues, the lower the fruit hangs,” said Tim Hassett. “Using conservative industry estimates, over 300 motorcycle manufacturers worldwide sell 100 million units in a global market worth 100 billion dollars. The vast majority rely on wet clutch multi-plate packs and that includes electrics.”

Heavy usage can raise plate temperatures to critical levels which can destroy the oil film separating them, deform the plates and degrade the plate surfaces.

CoolTech’s heat pipe technology can be incorporated within the plates and rapidly transfer heat to the surrounding oil before the temperature reaches critical levels. The result: increased capability to transmit more power from the application and longer clutch life.

“This PTC patent has been applied for in key countries of manufacturing, import and export where global players like Harley Davidson, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda dominate the market.  It’s a situation that fits our license and royalty model perfectly,” added Mr. Hassett.  “The great thing about patent licenses is they’re like corporate annuities. They can pay off year after year for the life of the patent.”

Additional information on the technology and its potential can be found on the company’s blog (http://cooltechnologiesinc.com/category/blog/) later in the week.
