American Health Council Names Angela J. Hanson, M.D. to Education Board


NEW YORK, April 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Angela J. Hanson, Acting Assistant Professor at the University of Washington has been selected to join the Education Board at the American Health Council. She will be sharing her knowledge and expertise on Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.

With experience in the field of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics since 2011, Dr. Hanson offers valuable insight in her role as an Acting Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Medicine Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine. Established in 1970, the University of Washington Medicine Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine serves as a haven tackling the healthcare needs of an aging population. The department offers fellowship, research, and patient care opportunities that will alter the future of healthcare for the growing older adult population and treatment of chronic illnesses that affect individuals of all ages.

As an Acting Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Medicine Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, Dr. Hanson’s day-to-day responsibilities include duties such as clinical research on the interaction of metabolism and Alzheimer’s Disease, and teaching residents about issues pertaining to geriatrics and dementia. Additionally, she balances working with the impatient medicine service at Harborview Medical Center. Her research expertise focuses on understanding how dietary factors can affect cognition and Alzheimer's disease progression.

In 2006, Dr. Hanson earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado. To further her professional development, she completed a residency at UW - Division of General Internal Medicine in 2009 and a fellowship at UW - Division of Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine in 2011. Dr. Hanson is American Board Certified in Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine.

Dr. Hanson maintains affiliations with the American Geriatrics Society, American College of Physicians, and The Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART).

The field of Geriatric Medicine served as the ideal choice for Dr. Hanson simply due to her initial interest and fascination with the senior population. She attributes her success to having supportive teachers, mentors, and her family.

Her dedication to medicine has led to six peer-reviewed publications, journal reviews, and several opportunities to address seniors regarding the topics of Geriatrics and Dementia. 

In her free time, Dr. Hanson enjoys trail running, hiking, reading, and playing the piano.

Considering the future, Dr. Hanson hopes for continual growth in her career and to apply for a RO1 grant to study the diets effect on the brain.
