FogHorn Named by Gartner as a Cool Vendor in IoT Edge Computing

FogHorn Systems’ lightweight, performant and scalable complex-event processing (CEP) engine enables real-time advanced analytics and machine learning for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- FogHorn Systems, a leading provider of edge intelligence software for industrial and commercial IoT applications, today announced it has been included in the ”Cool Vendors in IoT Edge Computing, 2017” report by Gartner, Inc.

“It is an honor to be included in the Cool Vendor report by Gartner and we feel this underscores our vision to bring real-time computing, analytics and machine learning to edge devices,” said David C. King, CEO of FogHorn Systems. “By creating a widely distributed and highly miniaturized CEP software engine for industrial IoT, we are enabling operational efficiencies, performance enhancements and predictive analytics on a much larger scale compared to more typical monolithic cloud-based solutions. Our approach also introduces enormous flexibility because it supports the wide diversity of heterogeneous systems and devices that comprise Industrial IoT.”

According to the Gartner Cool Vendors in IoT Edge Computing, 2017 report, “Distributed computing at the edge of the data center and cloud is not new. Many applications, such as manufacturing automation systems, electricity-generating stations, vehicles and machines, have long relied on distributed computing for control of processes. However, emerging applications, such as multimedia sensors (for example, video and audio analytics) and autonomous machines with increased compute requirements running artificial intelligence models on the local machine, require architectural elements different than that which cloud and data centers can offer. Traditional data centers or centralized cloud architectures are not aligned with these emerging requirements.”

“Edge computing architectures provide alternative design elements that can be used, depending on the specific application requirements. In edge computing, cloudlike functionalities, such as compute, storage and networking (including orchestration of applications of virtualization and software-defined data center technologies) and analytics applications, are pushed to the edge of the network. The edge of the network is where IoT data is generated by sensors and other IoT endpoints. Edge computing serves as the decentralized extension of cloud at the edge of the campus networks, at the edge of the data center networks and at the edge of the cloud.”
