Solera Health Appoints Danielle Turnipseed Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy

Preventive and Population Health Leader to Represent Company’s Legislative and Regulatory Initiatives

WASHINGTON, May 17, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Solera Health, a preventive care benefits manager, announced today the appointment of Danielle P. Turnipseed, JD, MPP, M.H.S.A., as vice president of government affairs and policy. In her new role, Ms. Turnipseed will lead the company’s Washington D.C. operations with a focus on the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP), driving state DPP access for Medicaid populations and complementary efforts to reach the commercial, employer, and individual markets.

Solera’s platform technology creates a marketplace connecting the 86 million U.S. adults at risk for type 2 diabetes with the over 1,000 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognized digital, national or community-based Diabetes Prevention Program providers (DPPs). The company, in its role as a preventive care benefits manager, makes chronic disease prevention programs affordable, accessible and efficient by connecting at-risk individuals with a diverse range of lifestyle modification programs as a covered medical benefit. Solera’s national scalable model was designed to consolidate highly fragmented programs and services into one integrated network allowing health plans and medical providers to increase consumer access and participation while lowering associated costs.

“Danielle is an accomplished healthcare veteran with deep health policy expertise in population health and specifically in diabetes prevention, including her extensive work with health plans and employers,” said Brenda Schmidt, CEO of Solera Health. “We are thrilled to welcome her to the Solera team as we believe her extensive industry knowledge and legislative experience will be extremely valuable as we continue to extend our impact on chronic disease prevention and management efforts at the national, state and hyper-local level.”

Ms. Turnipseed is a practicing lawyer who brings to the position over 15 years of healthcare policy experience. Most recently, she was the vice president, prevention and population health at America’s Health Insurance Plans where she served as the resident expert on prevention, wellness, and population health related policies, issues, recommendations, and best practices on the clinical affairs team. In that role, she directed a multi-year, multi-million dollar CDC cooperative agreement to prevent diabetes. Prior to that position, she worked for two United States Senators as their health legislative assistant and policy advisor with particular attention on increasing access to health insurance for the uninsured, pharmaceuticals, HIV/AIDS, health disparities, Medicare, Medicaid, physician and medical device issues, regulations and payment policies.

“I’m thrilled to join Solera Health at such a pivotal time in the population and preventive health conversation on Capitol Hill. We are on the cusp of tremendous changes in the healthcare field and have a great opportunity to shift from acute and emergency care to chronic disease and prevention,” said Ms. Turnipseed. “But with the advent of DPP for Medicare beneficiaries, and states increasing interest in DPP for Medicaid beneficiaries, working with federal and state governments will be required to offer these programs in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Solera is in a prime position to help support these efforts and I look forward to leading the company in our related legislative and regulatory initiatives.”
