HONOLULU, HI., May 23, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Air Force Association’s (AFA) CyberPatriot program announced today that they will be hosting 105 CyberCamps this summer in over 160 locations around the United States, with over 15 camps being held in Hawaii.

The Hawaii CyberCamps have partnered with Cyber Hui, a community of cybersecurity professionals dedicated to sharing their skills with Hawaii’s youth. Cyber Hui, along with the State of Hawaii Department of Education and the University of Hawaii, provide support and mentorship for the 2017 CyberCamps and CyberPatriot X teams throughout the state.

"The Hawaii cybersecurity community is coming together and making a huge impact with our youth,” said Reynold Hioki, CyberPatriot Mentor and Hawaii State Cybersecurity Coordinator. “Jake Ross and Cyber Hui are key to Hawaii's recent successes and ongoing initiatives. Of course, a lot of this wouldn't be possible without the efforts of Gen Skoch and AFA's CyberPatriot/CyberCamp programs."

Cyber Hui has supported the upcoming CyberCamps by connecting students participating in the program with instructors, mentors and volunteers on all four major islands.

“Witnessing the passion and enthusiasm that these kids have gives me hope that the talent we are growing will make great contributions to the innovation and national security of the United States of America,” said Jake Ross, Cyber Hui President.

CyberCamps give students the opportunity to learn about topics in STEM regardless of their previous knowledge or education in cybersecurity.

“The CyberPatriot program has opened doors for our students that they did not even know existed: college majors, scholarships, career opportunities, and a chance to make an important and positive difference in the world,” said Debbie Kula, Math Department Head at Sacred Hearts Academy.

CyberPatriot, the nation's largest and fastest growing youth cyber education program, is AFA's flagship science, technology, engineering and mathematics program dedicated to strengthening cyber skills among American youth. The program features the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition for high school and middle school students, AFA CyberCamps, and an Elementary School Cyber Education Initiative.

Supporters of CyberPatriot include Northrop Grumman Foundation, CyberPatriot's Presenting Sponsor, as well as Cyber Diamond sponsors AT&T and the AT&T Foundation, Cisco, Microsoft, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense; Cyber Gold sponsors Facebook, Riverside Research, Splunk, and Symantec; and Cyber Silver sponsors Air Force STEM, Air Force Reserve, American Military University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Leidos, and University of Maryland University College.

CyberCamps will take place starting June 5th through August 4th. To learn which CyberCamps will be hosted in your area, click here.
