Alstom announces changes within its Executive Committee

12 June 2017 - Alstom announces the appointment of two Senior Vice Presidents for Europe and for Middle East & Africa, effective 1st of July. Gian Luca Erbacci is appointed Senior Vice-President for Europe and Didier Pfleger, Senior Vice-President for Middle-East & Africa. Gian Luca, who joined Alstom in 1999, has a deep knowledge of the company and was already in charge of part of the European business a few years back. Didier, who has been working for Alstom since 1991, has a strong experience of systems, an important expertise for the MEA region where a number of turnkey projects are under execution.  They report to Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Alstom Chairman and CEO and are both members of the Executive Committee of the company.

Gian Luca Erbacci is appointed SVP Europe. He was Senior Vice President of Alstom Middle-East and Africa since November 2015 and member of the Alstom Executive Committee. He held the equivalent position at Alstom Transport from 2013 to 2015. Prior to that, Gian Luca Erbacci was covering the Southern Europe, Middle East and North Africa region. In 2009, he was Vice President of the Train Life Services unit of Alstom Transport. He also held different positions, being in charge of the Bogies, Light Rail Vehicle, and later on the Rolling Stock Engineering unit. Gian Luca joined Alstom in 1999 (previously Fiat Ferroviaria) as Industrial Director in Italy. Gian Luca is Italian, 55 years old and holds a Mechanical Engineering degree.

With around 13,000 employees, Europe is the largest region of the Group and counts for 37% of the global turnover. It is spread over seven clusters (Italy & Switzerland, UK & Ireland, Spain & Portugal, Nordics, Benelux, Germany & Austria and Eastern Europe) with a large industrial presence including 14 sites manufacturing trains, railway components and signalling equipment, as well as a large network of maintenance depots & services facilities.  
Didier Pfleger is appointed SVP Middle-East and Africa.  He was Vice President Germany & Austria since 2014. Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President Global Solutions of Alstom Transport. Didier Pfleger joined Alstom in 1991 in the Power division in Belfort. He has held various roles in Tendering and Project Management. In 2000 he took over the position of Managing Director for the Alstom Power Plants Business in Mannheim (Germany) and became in 2003 President of Power Service in France. Didier is French, 52 years old and is graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and holds an engineering degree from the Ecole Superieure de l'Aeronautique et de l'Espace (Toulouse).

The Middle-East & Africa region within Alstom includes several active markets covering Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Israel..but also Central Asia. The region employs 2,900 people and its sales have been growing by 30% per year for four years.
