City National Bank Appoints New Chief Human Resources Officer

Martha Tuma will develop and implement human resources strategy across the bank

LOS ANGELES, July 11, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- City National Bank, America’s Premier Private and Business Bank®, announced today that Martha Tuma has joined the company as chief human resources officer and a member of its Executive Committee. She is based at the bank’s Los Angeles headquarters and reports to Chris Warmuth, president of City National.

Tuma will work in close partnership with the bank’s Strategy and Planning Committee and its Executive Committee, taking primary responsibility for talent management, leadership development, recruiting, training and education, compensation and benefits, payroll, workforce diversity, colleague engagement, colleague retention and colleague relations.

“Martha has tremendous experience leading the HR efforts at major financial services and technology firms and helping guide those companies through expansions and transformations,” said Chris Warmuth, president of City National Bank. “Since merging with RBC in 2015, City National has grown rapidly and added hundreds of new colleagues. Martha will be instrumental in helping us manage this growth through our recruiting and retention programs.”

Before joining City National, Tuma was the executive vice president of human resources at Charles Schwab & Co., where she managed a team of more than 300 HR professionals and was recognized as one of the Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business by the San Francisco Business Times. She has also held senior HR positions at Apple, Intel and Logitech.

Tuma is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, and she holds a master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Hayward (now California State University, East Bay). She also has completed Stanford University’s Human Resource Executive Program.

Tuma replaces Marianne Lamutt, the former executive vice president and director of human resources, who retired from City National in April.
