Expeditors Expands Innovative, Sensor-Based Logistics Solutions With Launch of Cargo Signal

SEATTLE, Sept. 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPD), a leading provider of global logistics solutions, today announced the introduction of the next generation of its innovative suite of sensor-based logistics offerings for global supply chains. Previously available only on shipments moved by Expeditors, this adaptive technology will be offered on shipments moved by Expeditors as well as other carriers. These digital services are powered through the Company’s proprietary, cloud based operating system which enables unsurpassed visibility and control across air, ocean and ground transportation providers. Cargo Signal Solutions, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Expeditors, will be dedicated to providing sensor-based solutions that enhance shipment visibility, integrity and security for customers around the world.

Jeffrey S. Musser, President and Chief Executive Officer for Expeditors, commented that “The development of Cargo Signal is a great example of how we innovate through understanding and responding to industry needs. Three years ago we were hearing from customers who were frustrated with third-party security and tech start-ups that did not understand complex global supply chains.  In response, we were the first non-asset based global logistics provider to launch an integrated, sensor-based offering for high-risk shipments tied to global transportation services. More recently, these customers began asking us to provide sensor-based services not only on the shipments we managed for them but also on shipments managed by other carriers and logistics providers. In response to their needs, we have now launched Cargo Signal.”

Christopher J. McClincy, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Expeditors, stated that “Our Cargo Signal leadership team and technologists are establishing sensor-based, connected international logistics solutions that will continue to lead the industry. Relentless vision, execution, and strategic collaborations with Honeywell, Intel and Sendum, are delivering an innovation platform that will inspire IoT capabilities across the supply chain.”

“Visibility that drives true understanding must be rooted in logistics reality, and that’s our forte,” commented Gene Alger, President of Global Services for Expeditors. “Our Cargo Signal platform is based on our deep understanding of international logistics and the people, processes and technology needed to deliver the high level of service our customers require. Dots on a map become powerful, actionable intelligence when paired with our people who have the experience and judgment to interpret the data and take timely action on our customers’ behalf to avoid losses and create more resilient and responsive supply chains.”

Cargo Signal brings new levels of supply chain control and visibility through digital services powered by a proprietary, sensor-based logistics system and a 24x7x365 Global Command Center staffed with seasoned professionals trained in risk management, logistics and supply chain security.  More information on Cargo Signal is available at www.cargosignal.com
