Mr. Merriman, who founded Pennsylvania Trust in 1986, will remain Chairman of The Pennsylvania Trust Company, a role in which he will continue leading the Board, and managing client relationships and client development.

Upon taking the helm on January 1, Mr. McFarland will lead the management and strategic direction of Pennsylvania Trust, and continue to oversee the firm’s investment policy and strategy.

In 1998, Mr. McFarland joined the firm as Director of Marketing and Business Development, following a successful 14-year career as an attorney. Mr. McFarland was appointed Executive Vice President and joined the firm’s Board of Directors in 2011. In 2012, he was named President, and four years later he became Chief Investment Officer.

“George’s outstanding leadership, intellect, integrity and dedication to client service have been critical factors in our success,” Mr. Merriman said.  “George and I have worked together for almost two decades now, and I know he shares my philosophy of always putting our clients’ best interests at the forefront of everything we do. I am excited to see Pennsylvania Trust continue to flourish under George’s guidance.”

In addition to his professional work, Mr. McFarland serves on the Board of Trustees at the Haverford School, Board of Directors for the Mann Center for Performing Arts and the Board of Trustees for the St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia Foundation. He is also a past Vice President and Director of The Timothy School, a local school serving the needs of children with autism and pervasive developmental disorders. In 2009 and again in 2012, Mr. McFarland was named one of the “Best Personal Wealth Managers in the Philadelphia Area” by Philadelphia Magazine.

“I am honored and humbled to be filling the shoes of such an extraordinary leader,” Mr. McFarland said. “Rich’s dedication to our clients and to the quality of services we provide has served as a compass for how I’ve grown within the investment industry.
