Who: David Coletto – luncheon keynote speaker (12:15 – 1:00 p.m.). David is the CEO of Abacus Data. He will share his data and public opinion research which suggests that harnessing generational change will secure a place for affordable housing on the public agenda.
  Curtis Carmichael will provide the morning keynote (8:45 a.m.). Curtis is a successful university student with a promising future in education, with the experience of growing up in Toronto’s Regent Park, living amongst violence, drug abuse and crime. This past year, Curtis cycled across Canada to raise awareness about the stigma of social housing and institutional racism.
  Minister Kent Hehr, MP will open the conference (8:15 a.m.) following an indigenous blessing from Elder Jackie Bromley.
  Charles MacArthur with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, John Thomson of the Government of Alberta, and Sarah Woodgate with The City of Calgary & Calgary Housing Company will participate in a fireside chat focused on their governments’ respective affordable housing strategies (9:00 a.m.).
What: National Housing Day is celebrated annually across Canada on November 22. The Opening Doors event is the 13th annual event held in Calgary to celebrate National Housing Day and this year is a one-day conference that gathers non-profit, government and private housing sector to learn from experts in a variety of fields from all over Alberta and Canada.
  The conference empowers both leaders, managers, and front-line staff with the information they need to tackle the immense challenges they face from NIMBYism, safe communication in digital age and increased operational costs as well as opportunities stemming from sector transformation and green building techniques.
