TÜV Rheinland Announces Partnership with Gooee for Data Privacy and Protection

Gooee becomes first full-stack IoT developer to test products and services on TÜV Rheinland’s new IoT privacy certificates for “Protected Privacy IoT Product” and “Protected Privacy IoT Service”

Collaboration to deliver critical security benefits and guidance for consumers and manufacturers of connected lighting technology

COLOGNE, Germany and LONDON , Nov. 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --  TÜV Rheinland, a leading international testing service provider for quality and safety, today announced it has entered into a three-year collaboration with Gooee, a US-based enterprise-scale Internet of Things (IoT) platform and ecosystem developer. Under terms of the agreement, inked in London at one of the world’s largest lighting industry events LUXLIVE, Gooee will engage TÜV Rheinland to examine its portfolio of products and services against critical data protection and data security requirements. The tests will be based on criteria prescribed by TÜV Rheinland’s certificates, “Protected Privacy IoT Product” and “Protected Privacy IoT Service,” which are included the firm’s data protection and data security portfolio.

Gooee specializes in innovative IoT lighting solutions and works with a number of international manufacturers. “Our customers have the utmost standards for data security and protection, and Gooee is proud to become the first full-stack IoT developer to work with TÜV Rheinland within the framework of its new IoT privacy certificates. The testing that will precede certification covers all material compliance aspects of the stringent EU GDPR,” said Simon Coombes, CTO at Gooee.

Earlier in 2017, TÜV Rheinland began offering a unique, end-to-end solution for data protection related to the IoT with its protected privacy certificates. These services test whether the requirements of the EU GDPR have been correctly implemented on physical devices as well as any associated services that are part of the complete system. Testing also reviews downstream data security and protection requirements for resellers and retailers.

“We are delighted to engage with Gooee with our protected privacy certification program, as it allows TÜV Rheinland to make a valuable contribution to the IoT industry for data protection and security in the fast-moving market of connected lighting,” said Udo Scalla, head of the IoT Privacy Global Competence Center at TÜV Rheinland. “Testing and certifying IoT devices for data protection and privacy is a natural extension of TÜV Rheinland’s portfolio, which will benefit manufacturers and consumers alike. We can demonstrate that products are not only technically safe, but also that the user’s data privacy is utmost protected,” said Mr. Scalla.
