Sumo Logic Extends Industry-First Native Support for Unified Logs and Metrics Data to Microservices and Orchestration Technologies

First-to-Market Solution Provides Real-Time Continuous Intelligence to Microservices-Based Modern Applications Built on Kubernetes and Docker

Expands Machine Data Analytics to Every Layer of the Application Stack Providing Flexibility and Portability for Multi-Cloud Infrastructures

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AWS re:INVENT Sumo Logic, the leading cloud-native, machine data analytics platform that delivers continuous intelligence, today announced a first-to-market unified logs and metrics solution for improving customer experience of applications running on Kubernetes and Docker. Sumo Logic streamlines the data ingestion process using open-source and native integrations widely adopted for Kubernetes and Docker, and provides improved visualization and optimized analytics to show the health of Kubernetes-powered applications. This unified approach gives users full visibility and continuous intelligence into their application and microservices architecture, and helps them quickly identify and troubleshoot issues and improve customer experience. Sumo Logic will showcase this solution at Sumo Logic’s booth #1804 at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas this week.

Today’s modern applications are more like living organisms than the static, monolithic architectures of the past. Microservice architectures and container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker are part of these new modern applications and are growing in popularity. According to exclusive customer usage data from Sumo Logic, microservices and container adoption is increasing, with 25 percent of cloud customers adopting Docker and around 35 percent of Docker users adopting orchestration solutions like Kubernetes. While microservices and container technologies are helping enterprises adopt multi-cloud services as they seamlessly abstract application from the underlying infrastructures, as new functionality is released, monitoring and troubleshooting of container-based services must adapt as well.

“Although traditional IT operations analytics (ITOA) tools bring visibility to IT teams, they don’t operate well in today’s complex and heterogeneous environments. Shortcomings include the inability to deliver the scale and intelligence across silos that customers need,” said Nancy Gohring, senior analyst for 451 Research. “Businesses are adopting a new breed of ITOA tools and technologies that break the silos and better support the need for speed and agility across modern applications and microservices-based architectures. Some of these tools harness machine learning and bring together log and metric analytics to help IT pros identify and troubleshoot issues more quickly, ultimately delivering a better customer experience across the enterprise.”

Sumo Logic’s multi-tenant data analytics platform and machine learning capabilities enable organizations to realize their full data insight potential to build, run, secure and manage modern applications, regardless of the underlying infrastructure and technology stack. By expanding native integrations with microservice-based modern applications and container technology, the broader support for Kubernetes provides users with a comprehensive, in-depth, and real-time picture of applications running on Kubernetes - such as services, namespaces, nodes, pods, and containers. In addition, Sumo Logic provides out-of-the-box data exploration and visualization capabilities to understand the real-time state of their application within Kubernetes.

“While container and orchestration technologies increase flexibility and agility, they also increase the complexity, swamping application teams with massive amounts of data that is extremely difficult to navigate,” said Christian Beedgen, co-founder and CTO for Sumo Logic. “Our customers are building highly scalable microservices-based applications on Docker and Kubernetes and we’re excited to be able to extend our unified machine data analytics platform to deliver the most comprehensive and effective data analytics for providing real-time optics to effectively manage those applications - all while leveraging the best practices adopted by the open-source community.”
