Vitamin Angels Raises Over $79,000 with #GivingTuesday Campaign Launch

Exceeding Initial Fundraising Goal by 150%, Year-End Campaign Off to a Strong Start

SANTA BARBARA, CA, Dec. 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vitamin Angels, a 501(c)3 public charity that helps malnourished mothers and children get life-saving vitamins, exceeded the initial goal of raising enough funds to serve 200,000 children and mothers with the #GivingTuesday launch of their year-end fundraising campaign. Only one week into the campaign, the organization has already raised over $79,000 – enough to serve 315,000 children. Its cost to give one child enough life-saving vitamin A for a year is just 25 cents. The campaign runs through December 31st with a total goal of helping 500,000 children in need.

“It is so exciting to see how generous our donors have been to date,” said Howard Schiffer, President and Founder of Vitamin Angels. “We want to encourage continued donations to the campaign so that we can reach as many children as possible this holiday season.”

The fundraising success to date was bolstered by matched individual donations up to $25,000 and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation matching all donations made through Facebook on #GivingTuesday. Vitamin Angels also boosted awareness on #GivingTuesday with a social media activation featuring a mock meal-delivery service that was sponsored by Vitamin Angels’ corporate partners Neocell, SmartyPants Vitamins, Sprouts Farmers Markets, The Vitamin Shoppe, and This Bar Saves Lives. Helping generate over 1.8 million impressions, celebrities such as actress Ali Landry, Chef Charles Chen, and other health and lifestyle bloggers and influencers posted their reactions to a sample meal that demonstrated the need for vitamin supplementation in some of the countries Vitamin Angels serves.
