Ginger.io Offers Emotional Support to Over 50,000 Home Care Aides in SEIU 775 Benefits Group

Ginger.io’s nationwide healthcare network of coaches, therapists and psychiatrists now available to home health workforce

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ginger.io today announced that it is offering emotional and mental support to the members of the SEIU 775 Benefits Group. As a licensed healthcare provider, Ginger.io delivers care via world-class clinicians and is powered by machine learning and AI. Users are connected to a care team of trained emotional health coaches, licensed therapists and board-certified psychiatrists, who leverage patented technology to deliver a high-quality experience. Their core technology empowers the care team to identify symptoms, direct members to the right type of care, personalize the experience and map outcomes and progress. Ginger.io will give the SEIU 775 Benefits Group community of home care workers unlimited, around-the-clock emotional support to navigate the stresses of their demanding careers and lives.

The demand for labor in the home care aides sector is increasing rapidly. In 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projected this occupation would grow much faster than the average for all occupations during the next decade — 49 percent growth or nearly 600,000 new aides by 2022 (source).

“Our home care aides provide an essential level of care to people in vulnerable situations. There are real stressors and demands that come with this line of work,” said Pablo Brown-Rodriguez, senior director, product and innovation, SEIU 775 Benefits Group. “SEIU 775 Benefits Group is committed to offering members access to innovative benefits—providing care for the whole person, in and out of the workplace. By piloting this program with Ginger.io, we are able to deliver thousands of our valued members immediate access to high-quality emotional health care, ensuring they are never without 24/7 support.”

The crucial workforce of home care aides is often underserved, and there are intensive day-to-day physical, emotional and mental demands placed on this community. According to a depression self-check up completed by nearly 9,000 HCAs, over 1 in 5 home care aides reported having moderate to severe depression. In light of this high level of depression, SEIU 775 Benefits Group partnered with the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) to conduct a stress reduction study. Many caregiver participants had shared they had high levels of anxiety, stress, and depression and were looking for services and new skills that could help them better manage these behavioral health issues.

“Ginger.io offers a new model of emotional and mental health care for employers that recognize the need for meaningful emotional support in today’s workforce. We’re partnering with innovative employers to bring our vision to life, connecting individuals to world-class clinicians powered by machine learning and AI,” said Anmol Madan, chief executive officer and co-founder. “Working with SEIU 775 Benefits Group allows us the opportunity to serve a vital workforce that is on the front lines of health care.”
