TUCSON, Ariz., Jan. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In recent months, Fishkind, Bakewell, Maltzman, Hunter & Associates Eye Care & Surgery Center performed three free cataract surgeries leading up to its participation in National Sight Week (October 15 – 21, 2017), which is sponsored by the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation.
National Sight Week is a week-long celebration of volunteerism, during which members of the ASCRS Operation Sight network are encouraged to contribute one or more charitable cataract surgeries in their own communities. Fishkind, Bakewell, Maltzman, Hunter & Associates Eye Care & Surgery Center, with the assistance of the ASCRS Foundation, helped provide needed surgery to eligible patients in Tucson and Southern Arizona who were unable to access or afford it. The Practice launched its participation in Operation Sight during National Sight Week and will continue participating in the program throughout 2018. The Practice would also like to thank Southern Arizona Anesthesia Services for providing their services and Bausch & Lomb for providing intraocular lenses, at no cost.
More than 3 million cataract surgeries are performed annually in the United States. Unfortunately, many of those most in need are unable to pay for the procedure. Through Operation Sight, participating surgeons provide the life-changing cataract surgeries to their local communities’ neediest patients.
