Grantham University partners with Military Makeover to assist a Gold Star Family

Miami Garden, FL, Jan. 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Grantham University, a 100 percent online university, is assisting the Ewing family, a Miami Gardens, Fl. Gold Star Family whose loved one lost his life while serving our country. The university’s partnership with the TV show Military Makeover aligns with Grantham’s 67-year history of serving the military community through affordable, quality education.

Grantham representatives, alumni and students will volunteer the week of January 15 to help with the renovation of the Ewing family home. As part of Military Makeover, the university will award a Gold Star Memorial Scholarship to Bianca Avery, sister of the fallen Soldier, so she may earn the education she needs to successfully pursue her career goals.  After taping finishes January 19, the three-part series will first air on Lifetime® Fridays at 7:30 a.m. on March 2, March 16 and March 30.

"By working with Military Makeover, we are able to give back to a military family in a tangible way, which supports Grantham’s overarching mission of serving those who serve,” said Dr. Jeff Cropsey, military veteran and Grantham’s vice president for government relations. "I am excited to meet the family and aid Bianca in determining her educational path."

Grantham has a long history of supporting military service members and veterans through education. In fact, about half of Grantham’s students are affiliated with the military. Beyond the Gold Star Memorial Scholarship, the university offers several other military-affiliated scholarships and programs to help those students achieve their education goals.

The university offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate program options through four colleges and schools: Mark Skousen School of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering and Computer Science, and College of Nursing and Allied Health. As part of the university’s commitment to providing affordable, attainable education, the University’s undergraduate tuition has remained the same since 2007, and its graduate-level tuition has stayed the same since 2011. In addition, each year, the University awards millions of dollars in scholarships and grants.

Military Makeover enlists decorators, designers, landscapers and others to “transform the homes and lives of military families across the country.” As a Gold Star Family, the Ewings have sacrificed more for their country than most. Hilda and Arthur Ewing’s eldest son, Army Private First Class Jeremy Ricardo Ewing, 22, was killed in action in 2004. Jeremy’s younger brother Jermaine was honorably discharged after sustaining an injury during boot camp. Additionally, Hilda’s daughter Bianca Avery is married to Daniel Avery, currently on active duty in the Navy.
