Shippable Provides a Boost to DevOps Teams with New Analytics Capabilities and Support for a Wider Variety of Operating Systems

Teams building mobile and Windows based applications can ship code faster by easily creating end-to-end CI and DevOps workflows

SEATTLE, Jan. 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Shippable, a CI and DevOps automation platform, announces new analytics tools and support for applications built on Mac OS X, iOS, and Windows. Shippable now supports all mainstream operating systems.

Most CI and DevOps vendors are focused on Ubuntu-based applications, and a few are focused solely on Windows or iOS. As a result, DevOps teams often use multiple platforms, or choose to continue managing their own instances of Jenkins. Each platform has its own unique configuration syntax, UI and feature set, and managing multiple platforms can be inefficient, expensive and lead to an inconsistent experience.

“Shippable is a consistent DevOps platform across all types of applications, regardless of tools, architecture, language used to develop or deployment target used to run,” says Shippable CEO Avi Cavale. “With today’s release we have expanded beyond Ubuntu-based applications to bring CI and DevOps to mobile and Windows developers. We are excited to work with enterprises to standardize automation efforts across their application portfolios.”

Analytics: The Next Stage of DevOps Maturity

In addition to multi-OS support, Shippable is announcing an analytics add-on that will enable teams to measure and mature their DevOps processes. For example, teams will be able to run reports on topics such as:

  • Development velocity for various components or teams
  • Code quality trends over time with filters for date ranges and components/teams
  • Anomalies in the workflow, i.e. when a feature is “stuck” and not making expected progress through its workflow

Most software organizations follow the Automate - Integrate - Measure - Optimize path to DevOps maturity, which begins with automating individual tasks like CI, provisioning infrastructure, rolling out a security patch, or deploying to an environment. Next they integrate these “islands of automation” into interconnected workflows with the right dependencies, permissions, triggers and approval gates, which takes them closer to Continuous Delivery.

“Shippable already offers the ability to automate individual tasks and easily and seamlessly connect them into workflows with visibility, trace and audit capability across all teams and tools,” says Shippable’s VP Product Management, Manisha Sahasrabudhe. “Our analytics add-on will help organizations mature to the next stage by measuring their DevOps efficiency and easily identifying bottlenecks. We want to empower teams with the data required to optimize processes and accelerate release cycles. Now that we have added analytics, we will start looking at using AI to accelerate continuous improvement.”
