Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2018 Location Intelligence Market Study

NASHUA, N.H., Jan. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 Location Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research.  This is the company’s 5th annual report covering user perceptions and intentions surrounding location intelligence, a form of business intelligence where the dominant dimension used for analysis is location or geography. Most typically, analyses are conducted by viewing data points overlaid onto an interactive map interface.

The 2018 study addresses end user requirements and features such as geocoding support, location intelligence capabilities, third-party GIS integration, and mobile location intelligence features. It also covers current and planned industry support for location intelligence and how user requirements match or diverge from industry capabilities.

Two-thirds of respondents in this year’s study consider location intelligence “critically important” or “very important”. Perceived importance has increased across five years of study and is greatest in North America and EMEA.

While current location intelligence penetration remains modest in 2018, respondents describe increased expectations for future use. Middle managers, followed by individual contributors and line managers, are the most likely users of location intelligence today.

“Location Intelligence slowly but consistently has become more top of mind for both end users and market suppliers,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services.  “We began covering the topic in 2014, believing we would eventually see the uptick in interest and use cases. With the growth in visualization and the emergency of IoT, it has become more important to users to have location as a key dimension in maps as means of displaying information and navigating insights within their data.”

Industry investment for location intelligence has also increased over a five-year period, with business intelligence suppliers providing a full span of location intelligence features through core or third-party functionality. The top four categories of industry priorities – dashboards, map-based visualization, drill-down navigation, and value/range shading – are supported by 90 percent of vendors.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Business intelligence users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.  To purchase a copy of the 2018 Location Intelligence Market Study, visit www.locationintelligence.report.
