StormPeace Joins Statewide Coalition to Promote Hurricane Resilience

Partner Companies Urge Residents to Prepare for the Immediate Aftermath of the Storm

CLEARWATER and TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 01, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hurricane Irma proved that the first few days after a major storm can be paralyzing, especially when residents are faced with damage, their lives are disrupted and they don’t know where to turn. That’s why StormPeace, an innovative supplemental insurance, has joined the FAIR Foundation in launching “Get Ready, Florida!”, a statewide hurricane preparedness campaign presented by a coalition of emergency experts, insurers, homebuilders and relief agencies.

In advance of the 2018 hurricane season, the campaign has kicked off with a survey assessing just how aware and prepared Floridians are for the next big storm.

“Everyone should have homeowners insurance, but 53% of the respondents admitted they’re not exactly sure what’s covered under their homeowners policy,” says Alok Jha, CEO of Assured Risk Cover, which created StormPeace. “Many expenses are excluded, which means you’ll need to dig into your own pocket to remove that tree from your driveway, pay for temporary living expenses or buy a generator. That’s why supplemental insurance can help you get back on your feet faster.”

StormPeace is supplemental insurance that automatically pays a fixed amount based on the strength of the hurricane and its distance from the insured’s property. There’s no claims process and payments are made within three days – most within one day.

“Over half of the survey respondents also said it would be difficult to impossible for them to meet their deductible,” Jha adds. “StormPeace claims payments can be applied toward a homeowner's deductible, so you don’t have to take out a loan or put it on a credit card.”

Get Ready, Florida! continues through the spring with various events, including a 30-minute television special hosted by Craig Fugate, former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and veteran Florida emergency management director.

“After Florida was pummeled by a record-breaking 2017 hurricane season, we cannot stress enough the need to start getting ready now,’’ says Fugate. “It’s looking like more active hurricane seasons are the ‘new normal,’ and Floridians certainly need to take hurricane preparedness more seriously to prevent loss of life and property.’’

Other sponsors of the initiative are: Security First Insurance, Florida Home Improvement Associates, Custom Window Systems, Ygrene, International Hurricane Research Center at Florida International University, National Emergency Management Association, Salvation Army, and Sachs Media Group.

“All it takes is a little knowledge and planning to make our communities more resilient,” says Jay Neal, President and Chief Executive Officer of the FAIR Foundation, organizer of Get Ready, Florida! “Our partners play a vital role in helping families recover and rebuild from hurricanes, and through this campaign we are providing critical tools and education to help residents prepare more effectively so they can be safe.”
