Savor Distinctive Arts in Local Neighborhoods

Hong Kong's local neighborhoods are teeming with authentic and inspiring works of art that are ripe for discovery. During Art Month, the heritage-rich Sham Shui Po district highlights the HK Urban Canvas community art project, where talented local artists and students came together to create 10 pieces of shutter artworks to tell the stories of the neighborhood's local shops. Visitors are encouraged to visit the project's Facebook page @HKUrbanCanvas for information on how to join weekend tours to learn more about the project and neighborhood.

Gallery hopping in Hong Kong goes beyond Art Basel during Arts Month, when the South Island district of Wong Chuk Hang becomes a pop-up art hub. Plan a day trip to the South Island Cultural District on March 29, when nearly 20 art galleries and studios open their doors to host exhibits and performances. The up-and-coming neighborhood of Fo Tan, located in Hong Kong's New Territories, is quickly gaining a reputation as a haven to the city's vibrant artistic community. As a result of the gathering of Hong Kong creative community, visitors will find the area full of spaces to enjoy pottery, sculpture, Chinese calligraphy, and contemporary art, amongst others. Join Fotan Open Studios on March 31 for the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with the local artists responsible for the transformation of Fo Tan from industrial hub to the creative arena that it is becoming today.
