Unplugged Voice: SGW Launches a Line of Truly Wireless Alexa-integrated Voice Activated Devices based on DSP Group’s SmartVoice using DECT and ULE Technology

The devices include an Alexa-integrated Cordless Home Telephone System compatible with a battery operated Alexa-enabled ULE voice device and Alexa-enabled HD Voice™ DECT handsets. These devices will be showcased in DSPG’s booth, and the ULE Alliance Booth at MWC

LOS ALTOS, Calif., Feb. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DSP Group®, Inc. (NASDAQ:DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications, and SGW Global, a designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art cordless products, have again partnered to bring a new line of voice devices to market based on DSP Group’s  SmartVoice and advanced ULE (Ultra Low Energy) SoCs (System-on-a-Chip). At Mobile World Congress 2018, the companies will unveil three new voice devices that will change the way users interact with devices and their environments through brand new voice user interface (VUI) designs and will include integrated AVS certified support.

Truly Wireless: Alexa-enabled SGW Voice Devices – a world’s first for the Home Telephone
Riding the wave of voice assistant popularity, SGW saw a tremendous opportunity in “creating a truly wireless solution” to take Alexa, bring her to places around the house where an electrical outlet isn’t always convenient and to introduce a whole new way to stay in touch with a simple command such as “Alexa, call Mum using moto” to make a telephone call – a world’s first for the Home Telephone launching globally under the Motorola brand later this year. The new line of ULE battery-operated voice assistant devices featuring DSP Group SmartVoice™ comes in both stand-alone puck sized ULE versions and HD Voice DECT handset models. These Alexa-enabled voice devices tout an always-on connection to the Alexa voice service, long battery life with rechargeable batteries and a friendly yet functional user design to add to the devices’ portability appeal. As these VUI devices use the same core technology as DECT cordless phones, the range is superior to other wireless technologies on the market, interference free sound quality is assured because of the protected spectrum DECT and is a proven technology with over one billion devices sold worldwide since its conception.

OTT Bridge Base Station
SGW will also introduce a new over-the-top (OTT) bridge base station based on DSP Group’s integrated DECT and ULE chipset. The base station will be used to connect the VUI devices and offers unmatched reliability, range, and voice processing quality due to its DECT and ULE support without the need for a subscription based service for home automation capabilities.

According to Richard Hall-Smith, Product Director of SGW “DECT is and remains the chosen RF technology for two-way voice as it has proven itself as the most reliable technology that supports a superior telephony experience in the home. Our customers are looking for only the best in voice and user experience.”

“We chose ULE for our voice assistant devices due to its interference-free frequency bands and clear natural voice. We are seeing great demand for products that capture clear high-quality voice transmission as well as increasing adoption of voice interface applications. We are excited to partner with DSP Group to further penetrate this rapidly developing and high-growth segment.”

“With the growing adoption of voice user interface, a partnership with voice experts DSP Group was the natural choice for SGW. ULE, and its underlying DECT technology, is the ideal choice for voice transmission, and when combined with SmartVoice always-on DSP, it enables any device to be easily transformed into a voice-enabled product.”

“With Voice UI taking a center stage and becoming the preferred way for users to interact with their devices, we see a need to offer hands free Voice UI to battery-operated devices with extremely long lives based on our SmartVoice technology, moreover by adding ULE we are giving a new life and mobility to devices and opening the door to many new applications” commented Tali Chen, CVP Corporate Development of DSP Group. “SGW recognizes the consumer demand for these types of devices and is working to provide them through their channels. We are excited to be working with SGW on these latest innovative products.”
